Ostara (Celebrate Spring)

Happy Spring everyone!!! It was a surprisingly nice long weekend, originally they were calling for rain, rain and more rain. We ended up with sunshine and amazing temperatures that allowed us to turn off the heat, and open all the windows to air out the house. Which our house needed BADLY. I have been sick now for almost two weeks with a nasty cold, my voice right now is pretty much gone, think Kathleen Turner raspy sexy, hey sounds better than smokers raspy voice. And a nasty cough that has forced to me to sleep in a room separate from Dave so we can both rest better. I am feeling better, getting there slowly and the sunshine this weekend helped.

We celebrated Ostara this weekend (a month late, I know) but with the way the moon cycle was the holiday weekend was a little bit later than normal and well..........the real Ostara kind of slipped away from me. I also called this weekend "Celebrate Spring" weekend. The reawakening of the earth after a long winter's slumber. I have seedlings started on my windowsills, started to clean out my gardens, then I got sick and the weather sucked. LOL

I also made these cute little baskets for the dinner table place settings for our dinner. I filled them with some Lindt goodies (I love having a Lindt outlet nearby) and Hershey's Cookies N' Creme eggs.

Here is a close up of the side of the baskets. I drew my inspiration from a tutorial at Splitcoaststampers. The original artist made hers with a handle and it held the little Lindt chocolate carrots. It was too cute. I made mine minus the handle. I used brown and green card stock that I had kicking around for the basket and the grass edging of the basket. For the fencing, I used Stampin Up's Woodgrain Stamp and stamped it in Early Espresso ink on Whisper White card stock. I cut the pickets and bar according to the tutorial measurements, inked the edges with the same ink that I stamped the image. Adhered to the baskets and filled the baskets with the green grass that you can pick up at stores everywhere this time of year. And then filled the baskets with the yummy chocolate.

This weekend we also colored eggs, my kids are 15, 13, and 10 years old, but they never are too old for coloring eggs and egg hunts. Here are our three dozen gloriously colored eggs. And we turned them all in to devilled eggs, A LOT of devilled eggs. LOL

A full basket after the hunt. I made it a bit more challenging this year. When they were little we could hide the treats, eggs and baskets pretty much in plain site, but with getting older, my kids are also getting wiser. Darn. So each year, we have to get a little more creative.

At the end of the day we had our Celebrate Spring Dinner filled with lots of good food such as ham, chicken, potatoes, rolls etc. Our dessert was little cakes that I baked in the shape of eggs, my rule was that if you wanted dessert you had to decorate your own egg. I provided the icing, the family provided their imaginations and creative abilities. A mess was made, but everybody had fun.

A couple of the finished masterpieces.

Wherever you were, whatever you did, I hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend. Happy Spring everyone!!!
